Nevadans have millions in unclaimed property waiting to be taken

The state of Nevada has more than $900 million in unclaimed property and tells people they may have some extra money they can pick up for the holiday season.“Checking to see if you have lost property takes less than a minute,” Nevada Treasurer Dan Schwartz said in a statement. “What you find might make Christmas or Hanukkah extra special for you and your loved ones.”People search for the unclaimed assets athttp://www.nevadatreasurer.govand click on the unclaimed properties tab.The Treasurer’s Office said the property could be a financial asset owed to an individual or business, including: securities, bank accounts, uncashed payroll checks, utility deposits, insurance proceeds and gift certificates. The state holds onto the property indefinitely, and the original owner or heir never loses the ability to claim the property.People can file claims on the property through the web site.
